In Wake County, unintentional deaths from misuse of opioids has increased 144% from 2012-2016, and deaths due to synthetic opioids is a new trend. This course will provide guidance for pediatric and adolescent medical and dental providers on safer and proper prescribing and dispensing of controlled substances and opioid medications. Wake AHEC and Wake County Human Services have partnered together to develop this conference addressing the issue of prescription opioids. This educational activity is being offered at no cost for providers who practice in Wake County and will fulfill the prescribing controlled substances CME requirement for the North Carolina Medical Board.
