The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) recently issued a proposed rule that would improve access to medication-assisted treatment, especially in rural areas where those suffering with opioid use disorder (OUD) may have limited treatment options. The proposal would change the existing regulations for narcotic treatment programs (NTPs) to allow registered programs to dispense methadone remotely for OUD treatment. The National Council is reviewing the rule and will be submitting comments prior to the April 27, 2020 deadline.
