PCSS has developed a new 8-hour MAT waiver course that’s entirely online. No more looking for local trainings. No more traveling out of town or even out of state. We know you’re busy, so we’ve made it easy for you to get the training you need to prescribe buprenorphine to your patients with opioid use disorder.
Target Audience: Physicians who wish to apply for a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine.
Educational Objectives: At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:
- Review addiction identification and evidence-based treatments.
- Discuss the pharmacology of opioids as it relates to treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) patients.
- Describe the fundamentals of office-based opioid treatment including the treatment of the co-morbid patient.
- Explain the process of buprenorphine induction as well as stabilization and maintenance.
- Discuss other approved antagonist and agonist medications to treat OUD.
- Discuss basic office protocols including medical record documentation and confidentially.
- Utilize evidence-based resources to ensure providers have the confidence to prescribe buprenorphine for patients with OUD.
- Apply for a MAT Waiver Training Certificate to begin treating patients with OUD.
I am a substance use counselor and completed the training in 2016. I do not have access to the training certificate. Can I take the training again?
Thank you for interest in the DATA 2000 training. As you know, trainings are required for physicians and APPs to apply for the waiver to prescribe buprenorphine, but non prescribers may take the course and may want verification of completion even though not eligible to prescribe. These providers should contact the organization that authorized the training he/she attended (e.g. PCSS, ASAM or AOAAM) and get documentation of completion from that organization.
Is this course only available for Physicians, or can ARNPs take this course as well? Would it count towards the 24 hours needed for prescribing Buprenorphine?
Great question! You are correct, there are different requirements for APRN’s and you can find more information on the specific requirements and how to obtain them at https://pcssnow.org/medications-for-addiction-treatment/waiver-training-for-nurses/.
