What A Pain: Acute Pain Management in the Opioid Tolerant Patient @ Carolinas Medical Center Main Auditorium

Session 1 of Resident Pharmacotherapy CHS NorthEast Symposium

This knowledge-based CPE activity will provide the pharmacist with education on different approaches to managing patients on chronic pain therapy. It will also reintroduce healthcare professionals to the various pain management options, as well as updates to new laws and regulations regarding opioid therapy.

This activity is eligible for ACPE credit, which will be applied for through the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, a continuing education provider accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

Objectives

  • Recall the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and treatment options of chronic pain
  • Describe the mechanism of action, dosing, and formulations available for various pain medications
  • Discuss pain management in the acute care setting and in special populations
  • Review the Strengthen Opioid Misuse Prevention (STOP) Act and the North Carolina Controlled Substance Reporting System (NC CSRS)
